Gospel (Mt 12,14-21) - At that time, the Pharisees went out and took counsel against Jesus to put him to death. But Jesus, having learned of it, went away from there. Many followed him and he healed them all and ordered them not to divulge it, so that what had been said through the prophet Isaiah would be fulfilled: «Behold my servant, whom I have chosen; my beloved, in whom I have placed my pleasure. I will put my spirit upon him and he will proclaim justice to the nations. He will not dispute or shout, nor will his voice be heard in his streets. He will not break an already cracked reed, he will not extinguish a dull flame, until he has made justice triumph; in his name the nations will hope."

The healing of a man with a paralyzed hand on the Sabbath leads to the preparation of a plan aimed at killing Jesus. It is the envy of evil in the face of good that sets no limits. Jesus realizes this and walks away, retreating to a secluded place. He is not to sit still; in fact he heals all the sick who are brought to him. However, he doesn't want to appear. He did not come among men to be praised and admired. And, with a long quote from Isaiah, he presents himself precisely as a "servant", a good, humble, meek servant; not as a strong man or a powerful man like the powerful of this world. The true identity of Jesus and therefore of the Christian is the one that men flee from, that they think is inappropriate and a failure. Yet, the greatest becomes a servant, because only in this way does the life of men find meaning and a future. Only by learning to give, to think of ourselves for others, not to be afraid to love do we find our self. This is the way of humility. It's not throwing away. On the contrary. The path of service makes us useful, improves us, makes us stronger in our weaknesses, makes us discover the beauty that is always hidden in our neighbor.
