Jesus blesses and thanks the Father because he has made the Gospel of the kingdom known to the "little ones". "Little" is he who recognizes his own limitations and fragility, he who feels the need for God, he who seeks him and entrusts his entire existence to him. The disciple knows that everything comes to him from God and from Jesus who revealed it to us. We hardly feel like the wise and intelligent people that Jesus talks about. We are so in a practical way, knowing about our habits, about judgments that no longer make us surprised by anything; intelligent enough to no longer listen to anyone and to believe they can do without others. Faith is first and foremost the abandonment of the little ones, who have not understood everything, but feel strong because they are loved and obey the Word of Jesus. The little ones are not at all those who do not understand or who "believe everything". In fact, only trust allows you to see what otherwise remains invisible. The wise and intelligent have eyes and do not see, ears and do not hear. The final words of the Gospel passage open the horizon to believers of all times, including us. We can all be small: it is the path of humility, the one that actually makes us truly great. The Lord chose us so that, despite our poverty, we could participate in God's great dream for the world, that of gathering all the people around him so that they may live in praise of the Lord and in peace among themselves.
